Welcome ———-
I am Dr Sarjan Grewal, Clinical Psychologist
My approach is deep, relational, and grounded in the science and practice of compassion to support genuine, lasting change.
I offer individual therapy for adults who want to explore what lies beneath the surface—moving beyond symptoms or behaviours to understand the emotional, psychological, cultural, and spiritual layers that shape their experience. I aim to help people to shift towards living with greater clarity, intention, to feel more connected to themselves and others.
In my work with organisations, I focus on understanding the emotional patterns that influence team culture and support a shift towards more reflective, connected, and compassionate ways of working across the whole system.
| Compassion is…. Courage, strength, wisdom, deep connection; |
| Healing in a demanding world At compassionate roots psychology we believe in the common humanity – the simple truth that people suffer, struggle and long for connection. When life becomes demanding, we often fall into the societal trap that our pain is a personal weakness or a sign of failure. This sense of isolation – “there is something wrong with me” – often deepens shame, anxiety and depression. This is not your fault and are often natural responses to difficult circumstances and to how our early experiences growing up have shaped us. | Safe Spaces Our approach starts by first creating a safe space where people can slow down, reconnect with their thoughts and emotions and turn towards their pain and suffering. We believe in compassion not as an indulgence or softness, but as an act of courage — a steady, non-judgemental way to meet and understand pain that builds resilience and clearer choices over time. | Rooted in Community Our work is not only about individual wellbeing but about nurturing a culture of compassion in homes, workplaces, and communities – working closely alongside services interested in bringing compassion to their spaces. |
My approach is grounded in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and psychodynamic ideas. I draw on a range of different therapeutic models (e.g. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Systemic thinking; body-based exercises) to create a space that is tailored to you. This is a space to explore what lies beneath the surface and to discover how compassion can become a guiding force in your life.
This work may be for you if you are:
- Struggling with anxiety, low mood, or depression, and want to understand what sits behind these feelings rather than only manage the symptoms.
- Feeling exhausted or approaching burnout, and finding it hard to respond to yourself with compassion.
- Finding relationships difficult—perhaps feeling overly responsible, distant, or caught in painful or repeating patterns with others.
- Navigating identity, belonging, or cultural pressures and wanting to reconnect with or discover your sense of self.
- Curious about early experiences and the impact of trauma – how these experiences have shaped the way you relate to yourself and others. Turning towards the pain and processing your experiences with compassion.
- Interested in exploring different parts of yourself —including those that may unintentionally contribute to current or longstanding difficulties, such as self‑criticism or unprocessed emotions like anger, sadness, fear, or grief.
- Wanting to live with greater balance, intention, and kindness, even when life feels challenging.
This approach is suited to people who are ready for a reflective and emotionally rich process – those who want not only to feel better, but to understand themselves with honesty and depth in ways that can bring lasting change.
